Meet Waran, yoga instructor, writer, dancer, performer and all in all a very nice person. Originally from California, but living in Australia for quite a few years. I had the opportunity to work with him as part of my project for Sydney suburbs. We were shooting in Potts Point which is amazingly chilled area with spectacular views of Sydney CBD, only few steps away from gritty Kings Cross. Waran had access to roof terrace where we could see all of Sydney’s down town as the summer sun was slowly coming down, most pics in the set where shoot against this backdrop. We even got some curious visitors in form of parakeets and cockatoo looking for some snacks, looked like they’ve done it before, unfortunately we did not have any food at hand.
Photo shoot was retro themed as Waran had quite a few pieces of original clothing from early and mid 20th century such as this navy jacket and cap among other things. So here you go, again, another part of amazing city that is Sydney. Here is full set from the photo shoot.

Finding time
Published May 29, 2011 Photography Leave a CommentTags: finding time, passion, photo shoot, Photography, sydney

Lack of time is one of the most popular excuses we all give ‘if only I had enough time to do A, B or C”. I’m no different, I use the same argument, but we also all know the truth. It is not an issue with time or lack of it, it’s about the decisions we make, choosing one thing over another (sometimes even unconsciously).
For me it is essential to find time for photography, preferably taking pictures of people although animals and great landscapes can do the job, too. It keeps my body in balance and my head sane. Some people have to run, some people have to write and some people need to construct stuff, to keep them going. And it is very important that we find time to do this, schedule an hour a day for your passion, or keep Saturday mornings clear of any other commitments to work on your passion.
Take my last week for example, after working till 9pm on Friday, the last thing I wanted to do is wake up at 7am on Saturday and go across the city to do an early morning photo shoot and scout for locations. It would have been so much nicer to sleep in and do nothing, but I made a promise to other people involved in the project that I will come, so there was no way out. Sometimes you have to trick your own brain to do stuff, but boy was I happy that I had a productive Saturday, feeding my passion for photography.
Time is never an issue, its what we do with it.

Last week I had a chance to do a photo session with London based sculptor Bruce Denny. He’s not only a great sculptor, but also a bit of a sculpture himself, as defined and precise as his work.
We were working to create some strong portraits to go for submission at NPG portrait competition. I’ve been wanting to do it for years, but there’s always something in the way (like my lazy ass and other lame excuses). No more excuses, you’ve only got chance of winning if you actually participate. That’s my revelation of the day.
Here’s some more images from the session.
Accessorizephobia

Most people have phobias, fear of spiders, fear of snakes, fear of darkness, you name it, mine is accessorizephobia, it’s fear of accessories. And headline image of the girl with multiple watches is my vague attempt to bring it creatively to life.
Over the years I’ve developed keen dislike towards all kids of accessories and to me accessories is everything that I need to carry around that are not essential for task at hand. Carrying laptop to client meeting is OK, as it serves a purpose and pays my bills, but I will not wear scarf’s, hats, sunglasses, bracelets, rings, earrings, man-purses, watches etc., I even dislike carrying around umbrella – I rather get wet. And tattoos, that sound’s like accessory to me, no tattoos. If you have some freakish phobia (not your regular claustrophobia), let me know, might do a themed shoot about it:)
Here’s link to pics from recent photo session, it was meant to be about accessories, but ended up looking more like fashion/portraiture shoot, never mind.
